Recovery & Support
Cardiovascular PACU (Post-anesthesia Care Unit)
The top priority in our CV PACU is the patient-family experience, beginning by providing a superior recovery experience during a patient’s most vulnerable time. Our staff is diverse in both experience and background, providing care based on standards established by the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses and ongoing education opportunities. Patients can expect high-quality care that is efficient, personalized and compassionate. Teamwork is vital, and while each patient is assigned a primary caregiver, all staff members are ultimately responsible for every patient.
We know that once you’ve undergone a cardiac procedure or heart surgery, the journey back to a full and productive lifestyle really begins. Our team understands that in the days and weeks that follow, you can feel overwhelmed, and we’re here to help you through this process.
Our goal is to help our heart patients increase their level of physical fitness, reduce cardiac symptoms, improve their health and reduce the risk of future heart problems, including heart attack. We provide a supportive and comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation program that offers you a place to recover safely, at your own pace, supervised by our outstanding rehabilitation staff. Our team of physicians, nurses, dieticians, pharmacists, exercise physiologists and counselors help our patients develop a tailored plan, but will most likely include three phases of care:
Phase I – Occurs during your hospital stay and includes education from your physician, nurses and clinical team.
Phase II – Usually begins four to six weeks after you are discharged from the hospital, and lasts about 12 weeks. This phase involves medically supervised, individualized exercise and education sessions three days a week.
Phase III – Begins immediately after completion of Phase II and involves the patient continuing the exercise program independently with daily review by our staff.
Outpatient Cardiac Rehab offers classes on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and hosts monthly classes on nutrition, medications, smoking cessation and stress education.

Mended Hearts Program
We know the road to healing isn’t done once a patient has undergone treatment. Our Mended Hearts Program offers the gift of hope to patients with heart disease, as well as their families and caregivers. Through group meetings and special presentations, this unique support group helps people understand that there can be a rich, rewarding life after heart disease.
Members share their experiences, learn from healthcare professionals and volunteer to talk to other heart patients about what they may face, including lifestyle changes, depression, recovery and treatment. Meetings are held the second Monday of every month and feature a broad range of speakers and topics. For more information, call (281)526-6740 or (281)526-6127.
